The Thomas Fire rages off the 101 in Ventura less than 24 hours after it began.

Ventura County Firefighters put out embers from the Thomas Fire across from Faria Beach on the PCH 1, next to the 101 freeway. The fire jumped from the hillside to the median to the side of the PCH1, putting homes in danger and reaching the Pacific Ocean.

Patricia Hampton wipes away tears on her cot at the Ventura County Fairgrounds Thursday afternoon after evacuating from her home on Poli Street in Ventura that burned down on Monday during the Thomas Fire. "Whenever I think about it I start crying," she said.

 Horses, pigs, llamas, cats, dogs and other animals were brought to the Humane Society-Ventura County to be sheltered after the Thomas Fire threatened to burn down their owners homes. The Humane society normally houses 100 adoptees but has taken in hundreds of animals since Tuesday as owners flee to safer locations and are often unable to take their animals with them. Even with the fire growing near volunteers never fled but stayed to help the animals

The body of fire fighter Cory Iverson is driven from the Ventura County Medical Examiner back down to San Diego where Iverson is from. Iverson was killed while battling the Thomas Fire and leaves behind a wife, a daughter and an unborn daughter.
