In October of 2015, I went to Wyoming for The New York Times to photograph two families affected by suicide. The Jacobs family lost their father two years ago and recently moved to a new home closer to town. While Kim Morin lost her 16-year-old daughter 8 months earlier and still lives across the road from the hospital where she died.
Statistically, rural areas have higher rates of suicide and depression, Wyoming is the least populated state in the US.
The house where the Jacobs family lived before Leonard Jacobs Sr., commit suicide in February of 2014.

Kim visits the grave of her daughter, Monica, on the eighth month anniversary of her death. Kim goes to Monica’s grave two to three times a week. “I just go there to speak to her, tidy up the flowers, bring new ones,” says Kim.
“I found all these quotes that she had written down… It’s important to remember as you walk out the door.”
